GUIDE TO THE SCRIPTURES
Salem
The city in the Old Testament where Melchizedek ruled. It may have been located at the site of present-day Jerusalem. The name “Salem” is very similar to a Hebrew word meaning “peace.”
Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine, Gen. 14: 18. Melchisedec, king of Salem, was a priest of the most high God, Heb. 7: 1-2. Melchizedek was a king over the land of Salem, Alma 13: 17-18.
