THE BOOK OF ENOS
CHAPTER 1
1
Behold,
it came to pass that I,
a
Enos
, knowing my father that
b
he
was a just man—for he
c
taught
me in his language, and also in the
d
nurture
and admonition of the Lord—and blessed be the name of my God for it—
Footnotes
1
a
Jacob 7: 27
.
27 And I, Jacob, saw that I must soon go down to my grave; wherefore, I said unto my son
a
Enos
: Take these
b
plates
. And I told him the things which my brother Nephi had
c
commanded
me, and he promised obedience unto the commands. And I make an end of my writing upon these plates, which writing has been
d
small
; and to the reader I bid farewell, hoping that many of my brethren may read my words. Brethren, adieu.
b
2 Ne. 2: 3 (2-4)
3 Wherefore, thy soul shall be blessed, and thou shalt dwell safely with thy brother, Nephi; and thy days shall be
a
spent
in the service of thy God. Wherefore, I know that thou art redeemed, because of the righteousness of thy Redeemer; for thou hast
b
beheld
that in the
c
fulness
of time he cometh to bring salvation unto men.
c
1 Ne. 1: 1
.
1
I, Nephi,
having been
a
born
of
b
goodly
c
parents
, therefore I was
d
taught
somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many
e
afflictions
in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a
f
record
of my proceedings in my days.
Mosiah 1: 2
.
2 And it came to pass that he had three
a
sons
; and he called their names Mosiah, and Helorum, and Helaman. And he caused that they should be
b
taught
in all the
c
language
of his fathers, that thereby they might become men of understanding; and that they might know concerning the prophecies which had been spoken by the mouths of their fathers, which were delivered them by the hand of the Lord.
d
Eph. 6: 4
.
4 And, ye
a
fathers
,
b
provoke
not your
c
children
to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
