SECTION 58

57 And let my servant Sidney Rigdon ^aconsecrate and ^bdedicate this land, and the spot for the ^ctemple, unto the Lord.

Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the ^acenter place; and a spot for the ^btemple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse. D&C 84: 3 (3-5, 31). 3 Which city shall be ^abuilt, beginning at the ^btemple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and ^cdedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased. D&C 97: 10 (10-20). 10 Verily I say unto you, that it is my will that a ^ahouse should be built unto me in the land of Zion, like unto the ^bpattern which I have given you. D&C 124: 51 (49-51). 51 Therefore, for this cause have I accepted the offerings of those whom I commanded to build up a city and a ^ahouse unto my name, in Jackson county, Missouri, and were hindered by their enemies, saith the Lord your God.
