CHAPTER 2

5 And men are instructed sufficiently that they ^aknow good from evil. And the ^blaw is given unto men. And by the law no flesh is ^cjustified; or, by the law men are ^dcut off. Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off; and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good, and become miserable forever.

Mosiah 13: 28 (27-28). 28 And moreover, I say unto you, that ^asalvation doth not come by the ^blaw alone; and were it not for the ^catonement, which God himself shall make for the sins and iniquities of his people, that they must unavoidably perish, notwithstanding the law of Moses.
c	Rom. 3: 20 (20-24). 20 Therefore by the ^adeeds of the ^blaw there shall no flesh be ^cjustified in his sight: for ^dby the law is the knowledge of sin. Rom. 7: 5. 5 ^aFor when we were in the flesh, the ^bmotions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto ^cdeath. 2 Ne. 25: 23. 23 For we labor diligently to write, to ^apersuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by ^bgrace that we are saved, after all we can ^cdo. Alma 42: 14 (12-16). 14 And thus we see that all mankind were ^afallen, and they were in the grasp of ^bjustice; yea, the justice of God, which consigned them forever to be cut off from his presence. d	Lev. 7: 20 (20-21). 20 But the soul that eateth of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, that pertain unto the Lord, having his uncleanness upon him, even that soul shall be ^acut off from his people. 1 Ne. 10: 6. 6 Wherefore, all mankind were in a ^alost and in a ^bfallen state, and ever would be save they should rely on this Redeemer. 2 Ne. 9: 6 (6-38). 6 For as ^adeath hath passed upon all men, to fulfil the merciful ^bplan of the great Creator, there must needs be a power of ^cresurrection, and the resurrection must needs come unto man by reason of the ^dfall; and the fall came by reason of ^etransgression; and because man became fallen they were ^fcut off from the ^gpresence of the Lord. Alma 11: 42 (40-45). 42 Now, there is a death which is called a temporal death; and the death of Christ shall loose the ^abands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death. Alma 12: 16 (16, 24, 36). 16 And now behold, I say unto you then cometh a death, even a second ^adeath, which is a spiritual death; then is a time that whosoever dieth in his sins, as to a temporal ^bdeath, shall also ^cdie a spiritual death; yea, he shall die as to things pertaining unto righteousness. Alma 42: 7 (6-11). 7 And now, ye see by this that our first parents were ^acut off both temporally and spiritually from the ^bpresence of the Lord; and thus we see they became subjects to follow after their own ^cwill. Hel. 14: 16 (15-18). 16 Yea, behold, this death bringeth to pass the ^aresurrection, and ^bredeemeth all mankind from the first death—that spiritual death; for all mankind, by the ^cfall of Adam being ^dcut off from the presence of the Lord, are considered as ^edead, both as to things temporal and to things spiritual.
